Carbon fiber socket

Carbon fiber socket sets remove damaged, rusted, and seized wheel fasteners on cars, SUVs, and light trucks. First, select a 17, 19, or 21mm twist socket. Next, fit it securely over the fastener. Then, attach a 1/2" drive wrench and turn counterclockwise. Meanwhile, carbon fiber sleeves resist expansion under high torque. Finally, use the included punch bar to remove any stuck fastener.

Application:

  • When removing a seized lug nut, the socket experiences several stresses:
  • Torsional stress - twisting from the wrench (Fig 1)
  • Radial expansion - socket wall tries to expand outward (Fig 2)
  • Stress concentration - flute edges / teeth are likely to crack (Fig 3)
  • When carbon fiber sleeves are added, the socket wall stays rigid, teeth stay engaged, and the sleeves help resist expansion, thereby increasing torque resistance (Fig 4).

Instruction:

  • Select the appropriate size twist socket for the fastener to be removed (Fig. 5).
  • Fit the twist socket securely over the fastener, then attach a 1/2" drive ratchet wrench to the socket (Fig. 6)
  • Turn the ratchet counterclockwise to loosen and remove the fastener (Fig. 7).
  • If the removed fastener becomes firmly stuck inside the twist socket, use the included punch bar to drive it out.
